Until January, we had excellent weather, which was good for the farmers. The roads were clear, and trade in horses and cattle go on; the latter being very high.

On 22 January, Joseph Miller, son of Johannes, passed away. He leaves behind his grieving widow, Amalia Miller and her children. They asked me to send a note to the Staats-Anzeiger to apprise the relatives in North Dakota, the brothers Peter and Maximilian Miller of the sad news.

My brother-in-law, Peter Miller welcomed a new and healthy youngster.

Greetings to all readers and my in-laws Magnus and Eugenius [Eufanius] Miller.

I just received my copy of the Staats-Anzeiger and saw with joy the article by Michael Engel.

In the village of Leipzig, 30 werst distant from Krasna, an accident happened. Three men had gone to dig rocks and were killed. All were married and leave behind wives and children, to whom I extend my condolences.

The rumor mill has it, that the train tracks will be laid from Odessa to Akkerman and on to Leipzig. That would be great for Krasna, since commerce would be rising and immigration to the United States would slow down or halt.

Greetings to my comrade Emil Kopp, son of Jakob, in Strasburg, North Dakota, my in-laws Magnus and Eugenius [Eufanius] Miller in Bow Island in Canada. I sent the rest of the money to my brother on 25 December.

Greetings to all readers and the publisher.
