Worthy Staats-Anzeiger!
Today I received a copy of the Staats-Anzeiger, and I think it is one of the first issues in three years to come across the Canadian border. Whatever it is, for my part I am happy that one can read something decent, or in other words, that one can read something again in German.
Therefore, I don’t want to wait too long and immediately send the amount of $3.50 for one year. I hope that every Canadian who reads German will follow my example. That certainly is not much for a newspaper like the Staats-Anzeiger, in which one can read so much from all over the world. Just like the many letters from the old homeland, from where one has not heard anything in years. Though the postal service at Bessarabia is working again, the system is still very slow and uncertain.
At the beginning of October 1919, I received a letter from my brother Zachäus Kopp in Emmental, Bessarabia from whom I had not heard in three years. He also gave me his new address and I answered him immediately. But what happened, the letter came back a few days ago. I don't know where it had been, but I know that it was not at my brother's. I was helpless and did not know what to do. Then the Staats-Anzeiger arrived and I found reports from Russia, which were from villages not far from Emmental. Now I am asking people there who are receiving the Staats-Anzeiger, to ask my brother, if not orally then in a letter, to send me his correct address. He was always an avid reader of the Staats-Anzeiger and has to be known to the editor. As soon as I have knowledge of the correct address I would like to order the dear paper for him.
In closing, I send a greeting to my brother Zachäus and all friends and readers of the Staats-Anzeiger.
