Worthy Staats-Anzeiger!
Because of the terrible snowstorm on 15 and 16 March, many cattle died and also two people lost their lives. There is a schoolhouse on my property and next to the school was a stable 12x14x8 feet in dimension. The stable was ripped to pieces by the storm and parts were carried up to 200 yards away. After the storm, we now have spring weather.
The health condition in our area is not as we wish. A flue-like illness prevails among us and many suffer from throat illnesses. My wife has been in bed for eight days.
I am enclosing $3.50 and ask the editor to send the Staats-Anzeiger to the priest Johannes Fuchs in Emmental.
I also send a friendly greeting to the correspondent “A Farmer”, and I am encouraging him to continue writing diligently, even though he can’t write well in High German.
I also greet my in-laws in Larga heartily and remain respectfully,
Ignatz Gross
