Dear Children Hieronymus and Celestina Schnell!
We, your old parents want to let you know that we are still among the living. Our days, however, seem numbered, as we do have problems with our health and are getting weak. We can still visit with the children still around us, but I do not think, dear children, that we will ever see you again.
We would like to let you know that we received two money transfers from you, one for 130 Lei and one for 1,025 Lei. You can imagine how much joy that caused here. We were able to purchase some long-needed clothing. So thank you very, very much and may the good Lord bless you for it.
We also send our greetings to Reinhold and Angela, Johannes and Franziska Müller.
Everything is very high priced here. For a man to buy decent clothing, it would cost about a 1,000 Lei or more. Tall boots are between 900 and 1,000 Lei, half boots between 400 and 550 Lei. It is especially hard for us, as we have no income.
As I said, our time is over. We send greetings also to our dear children Anton and Marianna and remain your old parents.

Dear Brother and Sister-in-law!
Thank the Lord we are still well. You write in your letter that we have probably forgotten you already, but how could we do that? We always think back to where we were and where we are today. Often the heart aches.
You inquired about the weather here. Well, we had no rain since July 25 and did not sow any winter grains, but this year's harvest was excellent. We managed to get six horses, two cows and two two-year-old heifers from the proceeds. As you can see, God helped us even in the hard times. Thank God that you are where you are; otherwise, you would have had to suffer too. One cannot really put it into letterform. These things would have to be talked about in person.
Our little year-two months-old son died on May 24 this year and now all we have left are our five girls.
Kind regards,
Joseph and Lingam Ternes
