Since several families from Emmental have been asked by their friends in America to resettle over there, I would also like to join in very much. Herewith, I am asking my cousin Romuald Gross to send me the necessary ticket for the trip as soon as possible, so that I can join this tourist party.
Send tickets for me David, 25 years old, for my wife Luzia, 23 years old, and for our 1-year-old son Johannes so that I can make the trip there together with Joseph Mueller. Once I am there you will receive your advanced money back. Inform me by mail, so that I can prepare for the journey, and also let me know where the best place is to exchange one’s money into American money. Also, get all the necessary papers for me for this trip.
Dear friend, should you not be able to afford such expenses in such a short time, I am asking my Uncle R. [Remigius] Paul to do this for me with your help. I have no doubt that you will fulfill my request.
We have received the letter from your mother Katharina Gross and were very happy about it. I hope that we will soon see each other there.

We are starting to feel that the future is not holding anything good in store for us, and the human being has to search for something he needs to survive the next day. I am asking my Uncle Franz Mueller in the New World through the columns of the paper to send me, his nephew Johannes Mueller, son of Joseph, and also my wife and my two children a ticket. So that we can also make the trip to the New World, together with my brother-in-law David Gross, son of Joseph, and Joseph Mueller, son of Matthias.
Joseph Mueller and his family are receiving a ticket from his father Matthias Mueller from America for the trip to America. His brother-in-law David Gross is getting a ticket from his cousin Romuald Gross. Therefore, I am asking you dear Uncle Franz, if you can’t do it alone, your children Adam and Amalia should help out so that I can receive the ticket and David Gross. I am 31 years old. My wife Emilie, nee Kopp is 28 years old. My daughter Luzia is 7 years old and son Joseph is 1 week old. Hopefully, dear Uncle, you will make my wish come true.
The advanced money for the tickets, as well as the other money you spent in this matter, I will repay you upon our arrival there. I will prepare for this trip so that there will be no delay after the receipt of the tickets.
