Dear Nephew Maximillian:
Greetings from all of us. I thought I had better write a few lines to let you know that we are all healthy although our circumstances are dire. We are suffering here, especially since we had no harvest last year. We have one horse left now. The other one died and no cow. In these hard times, dear friends, I am turning to you with a plea for help so our family does not have to perish. I am imploring all of you, especially Emil, Emmanuel and Rudolf.
I want to thank Mr. Johannes Miller for the $10.00 he sent us. It was such a kindness. Thanks from the bottom of our hearts. May the Lord bless you for it! Praise be to our Lord Jesus.
Please, dear friends, do not harden your hearts against me, but help me in my great need! God bless you.
I am closing this letter and send you my greetings.

Dear Editor:
Herewith, please accept my report for the columns of the Nordlicht. I would like to tell you about a happy wedding that I attended 9 February. Frank Kraft was the lucky groom to take home a lovely bride.
A noisy, happy crowd had arrived and all had fun. There was a variety of great food and excellent drink. Many friends and relatives gathered there from the four directions of the wind to help lucky Frank celebrate.
The feast ended all too quickly and night fell. Following the night, however, came another day of feasting as the second wedding day celebration commenced. It was every bit as grand as the first. Fun and joy increased, if that was possible. All were enjoying the comradery and coziness.
We also had 4 inches of snow. A welcome event as our weather has been terribly dry.
A short while ago my wife took sick and saw the doctor. She had been ailing for some time. She is now on the road to recovery.
Greetings, Joseph Bachmeier
