From: Krasna, Bessarabia

Krasna has become very poor. There is no money, no feed, no spring seed and many do not even have their daily bread. We all know that something must be done to get the fields planted in the spring, but the question is, “What?”

Asking the government for barley and oats to sow? We have already tried that a few times, but did not get anything. What is there to do? Borrow money collectively? That may be the answer.

We have elected two farmers as our representatives of the village, Adolf Furch and Anton Söhn. They went to the Banat to Prelate Blaskovici who has helped us.

The Schwäbische Zentral Bank (Suebian Central Bank) loaned us 500,000 Lei and things are on the upswing. We have purchased enough seed for every field so even the smallest farm can plant. Everyone got a little extra, although some only as little as 1,000 Lei, but it all helps. Even if a small farmer only has 3 hectares, he can work it to make a living. It was wonderful. All villagers benefited from it in the true spirit of Christianity. It makes us strong and noble!
