Dear Staats-Anzeiger!

First of all, I am greeting my friends in Karamurat, Rumania, especially my in-laws and brother-in-law Romanus Bogolowsky. I want to inform him that we have received his pictures and also the one from Maximilian Furch. We were very happy about them and we are very grateful to you.

Since the weather is very cold, we use a lot of fodder, which is not in abundance.

My friend Magnus Soehn writes from Karamurat, Rumania that his wife Christina, nee Schreiber, daughter of Jakob and Jakob’s wife Martha Schreiber from Elisabethgrad, South Russia is looking for her godmother Mrs. Nikolaus Baitin in America. Should she read these lines then she should give a sign of life.

I am sending a greeting to everyone.

Dear Staats-Anzeiger!

I am reporting to my friends that my wife’s condition has improved. She has had diabetes for many years. Just recently we again went to Rochester, Minnesota where the doctors gave her some relief. The food she is eating has to be weighed, so that it isn’t too little or too much. That is too little to survive on and too much to die from.

This is to let my brother Peter know that we were going to visit him last summer, but we didn’t have time.

On the sick list are the old widow Annamaria Schmalz and also our stepmother Mrs. Schaefer.

Recently, a fire broke out in our small town and destroyed the butcher shop and the saddler’s workshop. The damage caused by the fire amounted to several thousand dollars. A year ago a fire destroyed three stores and a car repair shop in town.

For four weeks now there has been a hunt for rabbits every Saturday in Hettinger. Even the school children take part in it. The rabbits are driven into a fenced area and the school children beat them to death with sticks. This is very cruel. During the first hunt, 444 rabbits were killed. The second time they killed 277. The third time 551 and the forth time a total of 658. During the last hunt, 50 rabbits were caught alive and then shipped off. They received 10 to 16 cents apiece.

In closing, I am greeting my old comrade Anton Gedak in Krasna, as well as Adam Seifert in Emmental, Bessarabia. We want to let them know that we like to read their reports.

I am greeting everyone.
