Dear Editor:
Not much news here so let me start with the deaths: January 26, 1929 - Michael Harsche, he was 84 and leaves behind children and grandchildren here and in America. He was buried January 27, 1929. January 26, 1929 - Katharina, wife of Nikolaus Schaefer nee Mersbacher. She was buried January 27, 1929.
Weddings: January 22, 1929, Korbinian Dirk, son of Semforian Dirk, and Katharina, daughter of Anton Söhn. Alexander Deichert and Paulina, daughter of Ignatz Becker. Korbinian and Angelia, daughter of Lorenz Riehl, celebrated their silver wedding anniversary on January 19, 1929. Such an occasion is rare, but it is a thing of beauty to see man and wife at the altar giving their wedding vows again to each other. Pastor Leibham held a nice sermon. Their children and a grandchild attended together with brothers and in-laws. Korbinian is the son of the late Gottlieb Leinz. Best wishes, especially health and a golden anniversary in the future.
January 29, 1929 - Valentin, son of the late Leonhard Plotzki and Elisabetha, daughter of Ambrosius Leinz.
January 29, 1929 - Theobalt, son of the late Gabriel Spitznagel and Katharina, daughter of the late Lukas Adolf Mass.
As reported earlier, we received wheat and it was given out to all the needy with 10 kilograms or 25 pounds a person. Down payment was only 20 Lei/Pud; the remainder is due in October. A Pud is figured at l78 Lei, but the prices should fall.
It is rumored that 3,000 wagonloads of bread and seed are enroute to Bessarabia. Many of the small farms already sold off their cattle, household goods, such as pillows etc. The feather-Jews come to the villages in the morning and leave at night with half a wagonload of feathers. I saw much of that in the recent past. They pay 90 Lei for a pound of feathers. I sold 3 pounds of feathers myself the other day and received 270 Lei for them. Also bought a Pud of flour and had 90 Lei left over.
The thermometer reads 17 degrees cold and it is lasting.
Greetings to the editor and staff and all readers here and there.
