February 8 through 11 was extremely cold with temperatures at 27 degrees below zero. Most people cannot remember anything so cold. Most of the wells froze and the soil burst from the cold. The frost is more than one Arschin deep.
Death List: February 26, 1929 - Michael Ternes Sr., age 82. He leaves behind his 2nd wife and children as well as grandchildren. This message to his son in Raleigh, North Dakota. Josef Krams died on the same day at age 62. He leaves behind his wife and five children of which four are married and one is not married. Elisabetha Becker, wife of the late Jacob Becker died February 3 at age 84.
As I reported earlier about the immigration, both gentlemen met in Kischinev. A doctor from Kischinev arrived here on February 9 to examine the people. There were 69 families for a total of 284 people.
Many of the farms are for sale in the village at this time, although, the people are not even certain whether they can leave yet. More about it later.
We received another food shipment of 625 Pud of corn on the cob courtesy of the Federale. The price is not available just yet.
