Dear Staats-Anzeiger!

Recently, the widow Elisabetha Deichert visited me. She had not heard from her son Fidelis Deichert for years and asked me to locate him in America through the renowned Staats-Anzeiger. Should he not be a reader of this newspaper, then his neighbors are asked to draw his attention to these lines. He should be informed that on 22 January, his brother Alexander Deichert married Paulina Becker, the daughter of Ignatz Becker. Fidelis should write his worried mother immediately and also send her his current address.

A peculiar incident happened here, that could have had severe consequences.

M. Seifert and his wife Philomena, nee Schilkowski on a very cold evening went to visit her parents Heinrich Schilkowski and his wife. Several more drinking buddies arrived also. After they had downed the “Red’ (wine) for quite a while, M. Seifert started to wander off and somewhere received severe blows to his head. Bleeding he dragged himself to the stack of straw of Simon Kopp, where he collapsed. He lay there unconscious in the freezing temperatures. He regained consciousness again around midnight and returned to his father-in-law, Heinrich Schilkowski, and rapped on the door. His mother-in-law opened the door and let him in. He looked terrible. The blood that had flowed out of his mouth was frozen. He trembled and shook like a leaf because of hypothermia. His hands were frost bitten. In the meantime, his wife and his brother-in-law had left to go home. They assumed that M. Seifert was already at home. They were shocked when they found out about the incident the next morning. Hopefully, Mr. Seifert will recover soon.
