Dear Editor Brendel:

On July 3, the following families left for Canada: Ignatz Ihli, Markus Söhn, Alexander Becker and Simon Koch. The first four families had a large number of children. The oldest sons of Gabriel Folk and Markus Söhn had to stay behind because they are over 17 years of age. The Canadian Catholic Association is assisting them with credit. Alexius Riehl received ten credit checks so far.

The following families are getting ready to leave: Christostemus Fleckstein [Fleckenstein], Rochus Speicher, Joseph Wiegenbach, Johannes Ruschanski [Ruscheinski], Mathias Kuntz, Erasmus Becker, Nikolaus Harsche. Those who could not get enough money together on their own, but will go on credit are: Simon Söhn and Mathias Wuitschik. Some other families are willing to leave, but have not received health certificates from the doctor as yet.

Thank God our harvest looks good. Barley, oats and rapeseed are over one Arschin tall and are bearing nice fruit. Yesterday and today many farmers went harvesting. If the rest of the harvest goes well and prices are halfway decent, we should see some changes for the better.

The weather has been overcast and cool the past few days. One has to wear long sleeve shirts. May God send us rain, which is needed for the corn and potatoes.

Death list: Justina Harsche, wife of Zachaeus [Zachäus], leaves behind her husband and children. This news to Basilius Harsche who went to Canada some time ago.

There was a mistake in my report of April 8. The officials receive 100 Lei/Day, depending on the work they do.

Michael P. Menges and his wife Marianna nee Leintz left for Brazil on July 5. They plan to settle close to their brother-in-law, Philipp Soehn near Sao Paulo. He did not have enough money to go to Canada so he settled for Brazil, which is more economical.

Daniel Ternes inquires whether his subscription has expired. (*Editor - Yes, it needs to be renewed). He is asking his friends in America to please renew his subscription, as he is very fond of the paper. Mr. Ternes really enjoys reading all the interesting articles from all over the world. They read certain articles aloud. At one of the last readings a few more men showed up and they had to start over.

In closing, regards to the editor and the readers here and there.

Joseph M. Braun

*Editor - You will receive a copy of The Farmer.
