Dear Staats-Anzeiger!

In today’s report I have to announce some saddening news. Yesterday, 8 November, Katharina Haag, nee Ternes, mother of the assistant editor C. J. Haag died after a short illness and as a result of old age. Her funeral will be tomorrow 10 November. Mr. Haag, I convey to you and your family my most sincere condolences.

Karl Soehn also departed this life last night after a long and severe illness. His funeral is also tomorrow, 10 November. The family members of the deceased would have liked to conduct the funeral today, a Sunday afternoon. Then everyone in the community could have participated. However, according to Rumanian law the funeral of a deceased cannot take place prior to 36 hours after death. As death demands its’ sacrifices so does life demand its’ rights.

Recently, Joseph Leinz, son of Adam Leinz married Leokatha Haag, daughter of Maximilian Haag.

The following people are supposed to be married next week.

Leonhart Wingenbach, son of Albert Wingenbach will marry Arabella Krams, daughter of Joseph Krams. Blasius Ihli, son of Klemens Ihli will marry Dorothea Riehl, daughter of Peter Riehl. Johannes Nagel, son of Viktor Nagel will marry a young lady from Emmental, whose name, unfortunately, I don’t know.

One frequently speaks and writes that the stork has delivered an heir or a “housekeeper” to various families. But it appears to me that there is more than one stork doing the work here, because only one of them would not be able to deliver so many babies. There may be different time frames in this regard. However, pertaining to this year’s fall there are no less than 5 or 6 babies delivered each week. A diligent group these storks!

Johannes Herrschaft and his wife Bertha say hello to Peter Soehn and his wife Elisabetha and ask them to write. Johannes is of the opinion that the best sign of life would be to receive the Staats-Anzeiger again for 1 year. He has two grown boys and two half-grown daughters already, so that he has more time now and then to write the nicest reports to the Staats-Anzeiger and inform us about all the friends. For now my wife and I send you a greeting and also inform you that your loved ones here are still healthy.

I send a friendly hello to Uncle Jakob Ziebart and family. I was informed at a wedding about your request for me to continue writing diligently to the Staats-Anzeiger. I will honor your request as long as Mr. Brandt the editor concurs. (*Editor: Your reports will always be welcome and the best of greetings to you.)

The wedding celebration I attended was that of Konrad and Pulcheria Volk’s son Johannes, who married the daughter of Martin Weber Jr.
