Dear Staats-Anzeiger!

I am still receiving the Staats-Anzeiger regularly, but I don’t know if my friends paid for it for another year. (*Editor: The Staats-Anzeiger was again paid by Jakob Dietz, New Rockford, North Dakota.)

Not long ago, we went with our children to visit our parents in Malkotsch. We spent 8 days with them and we had a good time. They say hello to all of you. The grandmother is especially greeting you. She is still healthy, but walks with a cane. She is very sad that Uncle Gregor, who supposedly is a wealthy man, no longer wants to have anything to do with his old mother. She would be very happy to get something from her children.

A lot of things have changed in Malkotsch since I visited two years ago. In that time many nice houses were built. Joseph built a new house and Uncle Michael added on to his and covered the roof with cement tiles.

Further, I have to report that the old man Franz Hoffart died. Jordan Kost and Magdalena Klein are seriously ill and bedridden.

Recently, Karl Ludwig Trescher, son of Martin wanted to depart for Canada, but he had to give up his intent since the state wanted $500 from him, which he needed to live on during the winter. He is going to go on the trip later.

I would really write to my Uncle Gregor, but unfortunately I don’t know his address. If he should read these lines, then I am asking him to let me know his address.

In closing, I greet all friends and acquaintances.

Anton and Martha Schmidt
