Dear Staats-Anzeiger!

On 20 December, Mr. Raphael Seifert, son of August, and his family arrived here. Since our plantation was already totally occupied, he had found housing and work on our neighboring plantation. I still have not had the opportunity to talk to Mr. Seifert, but I hope to talk to him soon since he lives only 4 kilometers away from here.

A sad accident happened a few months ago at the brothers Anton and Peter Klug. The two brothers planned on buying a revolver from a Negro. There still was a bullet in the revolver, which Anton wanted to remove. There was a sudden detonation and Peter fell dead to the ground.

In the edition of the Staats-Anzeiger dated 15 November, I read a report by our friend Balthasar Rieger, who complained about poor health. Dear friend, we wish you a quick recovery.

Just now our neighbor Anton Schaefer stopped by and relayed a greeting from his brother-in-law Peter Kup… (illegible, maybe Kupfer?), our godfather in Larga, Bessarabia. We thank him and also send him a greeting. Dear godfather, we are very happy that there are still people in the old homeland who are thinking about us. Please write diligently!

Now I would like to ask my old friend Nikolaus Dutenhoefer to write again. I am sending a letter to you with today’s mail.

12 January 1930

We had very pleasant guests on 5 and 6 January, namely Mrs. Karolina Wagner, nee Kopp and Mrs. Jakob Gruber from the Swiss plantation, which borders on the Montebello plantation. That is where a while ago our friend Dionisius Nagel and his wife were murdered. This had been reported before.

On that plantation are still several German families who came from the colonies Emmental and Krasna in Bessarabia. The two women told us that everyone there is still healthy. The 3 small orphans of our brother-in-law Dionisius and sister Barbara Nagel are healthy and well taken care of.

There is no other important news to report from there.

With a friendly greeting.

Joseph Foeth
