There are wild animals in human form. A recent rape in the area is testimony to that fact. The case went to court and the man has to pay restitution of $1,300 US Dollars. He can be happy that this is all he faces. The plaintiff was a young maidservant in his employ. The incident happened while his wife was gone away on a visit. Next morning, the young maid went home and told her father, who then sent for the doctor, who in turn acknowledged the occurrence.
On 23 August, we had strong frost and another in the night. It really did some damage to the gardens, as well as the corn and melons.
Now that the beginning of school is near, I remember that the new schoolhouse site is only a mile from my place. One cannot have too many places of education. Threshing in the area began 25 August. Markus Fenrich averaged 10 bushels of wheat per acre; some yielded as much as 12 bushels per acre. Others only got enough for seed. It is the same as last year, when there was rain the results were best.
I would be grateful if one of the readers could give me the address of Kaspar Haberlach.
