All the best for the New Year to all the readers and the publisher of this paper.

Since yesterday, we have been having a snowstorm and one doesn't dare go very far from the house. It looks like boring holidays in store, since there will not be any visiting!

I was glad to see the correspondence from the old homeland, from my Uncle Anton Gedak in Krasna, Bessarabia and from my brother-in-law Melchior Weber. Both were in Issue #20.

I herewith send kind regards to all my friends in the new and the old world, especially to my brother Zachäus Kopp and wife in Emmental, Russia, and my brother-in-law Melchior Weber and sister Karolina.

With the exception of Russia, we now have the New Year all over the world. Russia is 13 days behind our chronology.

But I think that by the time my writing arrives there, there will also be a New Year’s celebration in Russia, or it might be over already. That’s why I am wishing everybody a happy New Year in the New and the Old World, especially the Balmasern in Bessarabia, District Bender, who always let me wait a long time for a letter.

I would like to have a drink from Balmas for the New Year’s wish, but it is “shamelessly” far.

My parents and relatives in Alsace, I also wish a lot of luck in the New Year, and my mother colony, Kandel, lots of unity.

Would also like to know if the people in Kandel are in possession of their own land by now. A lot of people here have asked me about this matter, but I had to refer them to the land surveyors. Once these come across the ocean then I will ask them.

I beg the correspondents in the old homeland not to fall asleep.
