I have to submit a short report so that my friends can find out how things are going with us.

During the Days of the Cross, we had processions and, therefore the Father of the church gave banners to the boys. One of them, Martin Bolickie, refused to carry one, earning him a slap on the face. Furthermore, he got a spanking the other evening for his bad behavior.

In Balasmik, a man by the name of Stasius Jelia drove to a field with an umbrella to protect himself from the wind and cold. The wind ripped the umbrella out of his hand. The man unhitched the horses from the plow and put them to the wagon driving after the umbrella for two kilometers (about one and a quarter mile) – A strange fellow!

August Sehn (Söhn) died at the age of 84. Eight days ago, from the same household, Joseph Sehn’s (Söhn’s) wife died at age 35. She left behind six children. The weather is favorable, but during April it was very dry and windy. As a result our flax was destroyed by some kind of ground flea. I had planted flax on six hectars (15 acres), but now I have to replace it with something else. It has been raining well for eight days now.

Greetings to all the readers, especially to my brothers-in-law M. and Raphael Ruscheinsky and families in North Dakota, as well as to all friends.

We have nice, but very dry weather so that the farmers had to stop plowing.

I would like to have Alfons Menges’ address, who is supposed to be living in or near Estevan, Saskatchewan, Canada. Maybe the readers can help me.

Romuald Dirk in South Russia please be informed that his Uncle Jakob Dirk died at age 84 on 20 March.

With a hello to the readers and to Romuald Dirk.

Joseph Menges,
Son of Peter Menges
