Worthy Staats-Anzeiger!

The harvest is done. I want to sit down right now and write several lines. Foremost, however, I want to order the newspaper for one year and send along the subscription fee in advance.

The harvest here turned out better than expected. Many of our farmers were quite dejected because they believed that there wouldn’t be anything. Wheat may result in 5 to 18 bushels per acre. Barley and oats are a little better.

Grasshoppers have caused a lot of damage on several fields in this area. Threshing machines are being readied at the time. Here and there you can hear the droning of a machine already.

I greet my friends in Grant and Emmons County, and I would like to challenge them to let themselves be heard from more often in the Staats-Anzeiger.

Respectfully I remain,
E. M. Erker.
