Worthy Staats-Anzeiger!

Today, I have different kinds of news to report. On 20 October, Mr. Eduard Hittel from Emmental, Bessarabia arrived here. He is Bernhardt Hittel’s son. His trip lasted one month. Everything went fine only his personal belongings were lost when he fell asleep in the railroad carriage. He noticed the loss when the train stopped at a railroad station. Since he reported the robbery immediately, the thieves were caught. The train continued without delay. After he arrived in Quebec, Canada, he received a telegram from Antwerp, Belgium telling him that his belongings would be sent to him on the next ship. This is to inform his mother and siblings.

I want to let my brother Zachaeus Kopp know that I received the watch. The messenger carried it on his body so it wouldn’t get stolen.

Adolf J. Kopp died on 29 October in Medicine Hat in the hospital. He had several different internal ailments and had to have an operation. He passed away 8 days after the operation. On 2 November, he was laid to his final rest in Krasna. He was 44 years old and was survived by his wife and 8 children. The second oldest child, a daughter, has been married to Joseph Arnold for 11 months.

The day before yesterday at 8 o’clock in the evening, John Dux’s stable burned to the ground. We found out that it was arson. He and his son were supposedly busy starting the fire.

One year ago, he leased his farm to Joseph Sitter. During the winter he lived in a house belonging to Georg Ziebart. He then built a barn in the spring, which he lived in. But since he didn’t want to live in it during the winter, he started a lawsuit against his leaseholder. He wanted to have him off his land so that he would have a better place to live. He lost the lawsuit. After that he set the stable on fire. Since his leaseholder was not home that night, nothing could be saved. A wagon with a header box, 3 harnesses, 4 pigs and several chickens burned.

When Mr. Sitter came home he found only smoking ruins. He immediately drove into town and reported the matter to the police. During an investigation, the son admitted everything. Both of the men were arrested right away and taken to Leader where they will be tried today.

The weather is still nice. On the 7th of this month, we had a little snow, which has melted in the meantime. Last night it rained a little bit.

Presently everyone is getting ready for the public election, which is going to cost several thousand dollars. It remains to be seen if the election will bring good things for the future.

With a greeting to everyone,
Joseph Kopp
