Worthy Editorship!

Now that it is winter, one prefers to sit by a warm stove. One also has more time to write, because there is very little work to be done outside.

My brother’s son Edmundus, for whom we have been waiting with yearning, arrived here on 20 October from Emmental, Bessarabia. He was able to tell us all the news from the old homeland first-hand. He also told us that several people from there have a free ticket. Those people are also thinking of coming to Canada to settle as soon as it is possible for them.

The health conditions here are not very good. Especially among the children; the German measles are rampant. Also four of my children are sick in bed with this illness.

The weather is very cold right now. It also has snowed a little bit. The harvest was meager. Hopefully, it will be better next year. The ground has received enough moisture this year so that in this respect a necessary condition has been established.

We still have to complain about the low price for wheat. Of course, the other necessities have gone down in price, but not in comparison with the sudden fall of the wheat price.

Respectfully,
Joseph Hittel
