Dear Editor Mr. Brandt!

We had a violent blizzard here on Saturday, the likes of which we have not had this winter. We had tended to the fields already and several people had done some sowing. Now the fieldwork has been interrupted and we probably will have to remain at home for a few days.

Further, I want to report that two auto repair shops have burned to the ground here. One of them belonged to me. Unfortunately, I do not have insurance on it and everything is now lost.

We were happy to read a report from Alexius Fenrich from Brazil in the Staats-Anzeiger. Just keep on writing diligently. We greet him and his family many times over.

We also greet our mother Theresia Fenrich as well as our remaining siblings in Krasna. My comrades in Krasna should write sometime. Although I have been gone for a long time from the old homeland, I still reminisce about it.

In closing, I also greet the old correspondent Anton Gedak and all subscribers.

Valued Staats-Anzeiger!

I have the opportunity today to give you something for the long journey.

On 7 April, I received a letter from my brother-in-law Rochus Paul indicating that he would love to read the Staats-Anzeiger. Therefore I will pay for the paper for him right away. (*Editor: Received the $3.50. The paper and the calendar were forwarded to him. We thank you a lot and greet you.) Since my brother-in-law is a good writer, I am hoping that he will send reports to the Staats-Anzeiger off and on.

In regard to the weather, I can report that at the time we have cold conditions. Recently, we also had a severe blizzard. In some places the snow is 9 feet high. On average about 1 foot of snow fell. Because of this big blizzard the fieldwork had to be stopped. I believe that a week will pass before we can get back into the fields. Because of that the sowing will be delayed a little this year.

The health conditions leave a lot to be desired. There are many sick people.

I have read the report by Alexius Fenrich from Brazil. I am very sorry that they have moved from one land of hunger to another. I also have several friends in Brazil, namely, Paulus Bauer, Dionisius Nagel, Hyronimus Herbora and Peter Klug. Should they read these lines then they should give a sign of life.
