Dear Editor:

I was very pleased to see my reports in print in Issues #49 and #51 of your publication. When I first saw Mr. Ternes, he hollered at me that I had been published. We had a wonderful conversation about the newspaper, which we are always looking forward to receiving.

The situation is sad again this year, since we were lacking rain. We did have rainfall beginning June 16 through June 18. There should be enough moisture in the soil now. The barley is doing poorly in some areas except where we had the floods. It looks good there, but there it had only been sown sparsely. In short, the future looks bleak. If the corn makes it, we will pull through, as long as there is momalika [mámlik – cornmeal mush] to eat.

The people make long faces as the hardships of the past years have not been forgotten. But God is still alive and well and that is the foundation of our hope.

The family Joseph and Pauline Wagner have asked me to let their brother and brother-in-law, Peter Hinz in Leader, Sask. know the family is very poor. They don’t even have the necessary clothing. They need help, if at all possible. In addition, the wife is sick and there are no extra jobs around. He would also appreciate a subscription to the Dakota Rundschau.

Greetings to the readers, editor and staff.

Joseph Braun
