Dear Staats-Anzeiger!

We had a cloudburst with rain and hail on 8 August, which turned our area into a lake. It totally ruined the Welsh corn, vineyards and the melon and vegetable fields.

One was greatly worried about the children that had been herding cattle in the fields. Kaspar Seifert had two children out there and he went out to fetch them, but because of the severe weather he had to turn back. Melchior Hein and Leonhart Plotzke hitched up a pair of horses to a wagon and were able to save the children, who had taken refuge along with other kids on the “Besenbinder Hill”. All children were rescued with the exception of Stolanus, a crippled boy. His mother was in great anguish when she found out about it. However, horsemen did find him in the “Strinjurier Valley”. His problem had been that he couldn’t keep up with the other children because of being handicapped. He took refuge under a stack of straw and spent the night.

Michael Gross, Sophia Moldenhauer and Georg Kopp had extensive damage by hail in the vineyards. Joseph Gross also had enormous losses.

Your letter Mr. Paul, in which you announced your fortunate arrival in Canada, did arrive here. Mr. Paul, please inform me by letter what my friends over there have to say about my plan to move to Canada. Your brother-in-law Alexander has lost a horse, however he bought another one right away for 6,000 lei.

I send a kind greeting to Joseph Miller in Canada. He should be informed that recently one of his parents’ horses also has died. The horse was valued at 12,000 lei. Misfortune seems to hit his father every year. Otherwise, his parents are doing fine. Joseph you should write more often.

Our mother Elisabetha Seifert and Barbara Gross are both sick. This information should be given to Martin Schwarzenberger.

Eva Gross still suffers with her bad feet. Katharina Schreiner should be informed about this.

Georg Kopp recently died of a stroke at the age of 66 years. May he rest in peace!

In closing, I greet all the readers of the Staats-Anzeiger, which I always receive on time. I also greet the dear editorship.

Adam Seifert

Dear Staats-Anzeiger!

The health conditions are satisfactory. As far as I know there is no one on the sick list.

Jakob Gedak says hello to his brother-in-law Philipp and sister-in-law Rosina Nagel in Haynes, North Dakota. He is asking them to bring him some joy by having the Staats-Anzeiger sent to him. He would be very grateful to his brother-in-law.

Simon Volk, son of Anton is also asking his brother Michael Volk near Raleigh, North Dakota to send the Staats-Anzeiger to him as a present. He is sending friendly greetings to him and his family.

Johannes Harsche, son of Michael is sending greetings to his brother Georg and sister-in-law Barbara near Shields, North Dakota. He is asking him at the same time to order the Staats-Anzeiger for him from the editor Mr. Brandt.

On 15 July around 2 o’clock in the afternoon, when most all of the people from the village were busy with fieldwork, Michael Soehn, son of Karl, Michael’s wife Dorothea and daughters Elisabetha (28 years old) and Theresia (32 years old) went to the house of their son and brother Johannes Soehn. The daughter-in-law Ruphina was busy baking bread. (Rest of story not translated)

Where are Mr. Joseph Foeth’s reports from Brazil? Mr. Foeth why haven’t you answered my two letters? Please report more about the gruesome murder of the Nagel family. (*Editor: There have been 2 reports published about that in the paper.)

I want to remind Anton Soehn, son of August in Canada of his promise. You can now come back to Krasna since your house is empty. The brother-in-law of the buyer of your house moved out on the second day.

Albertus Marthe is seriously ill.

With a greeting,
Anton Gedak
