Esteemed Staats-Anzeiger!

The valued newspaper arrives here regularly and delights us with the many reports from all parts of the world. With each passing day the Staats-Anzeiger becomes more popular here, and we can hardly await its arrival.

Just now, Katharina Ternes, the second youngest daughter of Heinrich Ternes, brought me the beautiful calendar for 1930. I am very happy with it and express my sincere thanks to the editor, Mr. Brandt.

Inform Mr. Ignatz Ihli in Canada, that his daughter Theresia, wife of Alexander Becker has been seriously ill for three days now. She suffers from oppression of the heart. Yesterday a doctor examined her, and he is dubious about her condition. Nevertheless, we hope that the good Lord will soon give her good health again. I have read the obituary about the demise of the wife of my friend Sebastian Moser in Balmas, Bessarabia. I was very sorry when I read this tragic message. But one has to take comfort, because what God does is comforting. May the dear Lord be a merciful judge, and for you a healing comforter. Well, Sebastian, what are your brother Rochus and his wife Marianna nee Sahli, my wife’s niece doing?

Have all our friends in the old homeland died because no one lets himself be heard anymore. Our letters to Uncle Wendelin Nagel remain unanswered. A kind hello!

Wishing the editor, Mr. Brandt, and the entire reader’s circle lots of luck and God’s rich blessing in the New Year!

Joseph Föth
