18 March 1930

Dear Staats-Anzeiger!

Our enthusiastic emigrants are preparing for their journey. Almost every day auctions take place in our village. Everything is turned into money. In three to four days, they want to start their trip to the praiseworthy Brazil. Among the emigrants are the following families:

Georg Wutschik, son of Lorenz
Mathias Kuntz, son of Christopher
Joseph Wingenbach, son of Albertus
Maximilian Dirk, son of Rochus.

These four families mentioned above will leave Krasna on 20 March.

Later these families will follow:

Johannes Ruscheinsky, son of Georg
Anton Kuss, son of Franz
Maximilian and Simon Soehn, sons of Anton
Erasmus Becker, son of Sebastian
Kaspar Weber, son of Martin
Lukas Paul, son of Lukas
Anton Wingenbach, son of Johannes
Joseph Ternes, son of Rochus
Hiazent Fenrich, son of Simon
Mathias Wutschik, son of Lorenz.

Things are not quite sure yet with the last two mentioned. They may not be allowed to leave because of some offense they have to clear up. I wish all of them bon voyage.

I send a sincere greeting to Thomas Ihli in Haynes, North Dakota, and also to his father-in-law Peter Schaefer. I was happy to hear that the old man is still in good health.

You are hereby informed that Klemens Ihli has been ill since last fall. He is suffering from a severe kidney problem. He is usually indoors and during warm days he spends his time outside at the front door. Since time is dragging on for him, he would be very grateful if you would purchase the Staats-Anzeiger for him for 1 year. The paper would keep him busy.

So dear friends, do not deny the old man his request. The doctor hopes that he can get him well again in 2 to 3 months. May God grant this!

Mr. Joseph Foeth is informed that I did receive his letter and that I replied right away. I thank him for the letter.

I also thank Anselmus Wagner for his reports. Where are Heinrich Ternes and Alexius Fenrich with their reports? Well guys, don’t be so lazy and write. Your kinfolk, Alexius, are all still healthy. The health conditions in the village are satisfactory for now. There are no particular diseases.

Sick are the brothers Anton and Karl Soehn, sons of Johannes. They don’t want to have anything to do with a doctor since they are superstitious.

The following people died:

Philomena Ternes, nee Steuert [Steiert] died on 28 February at the age of 37 years. She left her husband Markus Ternes and 5 children.
Michael Winter died at the age of 66 years. His wife Katharina, nee Nagel, is mourning him. Peace to their souls and rest to their ashes!

With a greeting,
Anton Gedak
