Dear Editor Brendel:
On April 26 and May 3, we had frost. Enough to damage fruit trees and the potatoes. The crops look very nice though. The winter wheat is already 1/2 Arschin tall. Another good rain and the Lord’s blessing!
Died: Susanna, wife of Wendelin Hinz, nee Harsche. She left behind her husband and children. This message to her brother Georg Harsche in Shields, North Dakota. She was 55 years old and had been ailing.
The following families departed for Brazil this morning: Joseph Ternes and wife Luzia nee Schaefer from Kandel and seven children. – Anton Kuss and wife Philomena, daughter of Konrad Volk, with four children. – Theobald Nagel and wife Gertrude, daughter of the late Peter Kuss and five children. – Mathias Wuitschik and wife Angelia, daughter of the late Anton Herman with six children. We wish these families a safe crossing over the ocean and a safe arrival.
In Issue #43 of the Dakota Rundschau dated April 4, I read the report by Mr. Johannes Miller [Müller] from Mondebela [Montebello], Brazil. It was of great interest to me and left a favorable impression on all the families who immigrated to Brazil and the others here. We would like to ask Mr. Johannes to publish reports in the Rundschau more frequently, so people here can get a better idea and feel of how things are in Brazil. We are all eager to find out. You wrote of eight families, but did not mention their names.
Greetings to you, dear comrade Johannes Miller [Müller], and all the Krasna people there. Please do write more often. You already know that the Rundschau is read and shared all over Krasna, and you can make sure that the paper gets to you there as well. How are comrades Joseph Paul, Alois Herrschaft and L. Winter?
On the night of May 2, a lamb was stolen from the barn of Semfor Dirk who has a mercantile and butcher shop here. His dog also disappeared and there was no trace of the thieves.
Greetings to the editor and staff, and all the readers here and there!
