Dear Staats-Anzeiger!

I would be very happy to once again read a report from my old comrade and neighbor Severin Becker in the Staats-Anzeiger. As far as I know, he now also has become a reader of the Staats-Anzeiger, and will now be able to pass the long winter evenings by reading this interesting newspaper. (*Editor: Yes, he is a reader of the paper.) That way you don’t always have to kill time by drinking wine. Your neighbor Philipp Becker wanted to whet my appetite by sending stamps of wine labels in his letters, but unfortunately he doesn’t write. Hopefully, he will now write soon.

Here everyone is still healthy.

Two other men and I are planning to look for work about 300 miles north of here, since the harvest was supposed to have been good there. We want to drive that stretch in one day by car with Vinzenz Mueller as the driver. Mr. Mueller has a son-in-law in that area and we are planning to visit there. So far we are holding out the prospect of work and earnings.

In closing, I am greeting the editor Mr. Brandt and also his assistant C. J. Haag.

Anton A. Soehn
