Dear Staats-Anzeiger!

Recently we received a letter from Uncle Friedrich and Aunt Marianna Dietz in Yakima, Washington. We read it with great joy.

Fourteen days ago I was at the spa in Tikerghoil because I still have a memento, known as rheumatism, from the world war, which torments me very much. Since Uncle Jordan Schmidt and Uncle Scharlui live there, I stayed and spent a pleasant time there. Uncle Jordan has a melon field next to the “Liman”. We drove off in the morning and after our bath, we fetched a load of sweet and savory melons and brought them home. We often took walks in the evening to the health resort. There we listened to a military band that played almost every evening. It was very nice and amusing there. Three days before my departure I had Martha come so that she could also experience Tikerghiol. From here we drove to Mantschabunar where we visited Uncle Michael Baechel. Aunt Christina is already dead, but he has remarried. Marianna, the daughter of Uncle Jordan is married there to Franz Ereth, son of Mathias Ereth. Uncle Michael still sings the same as he did 20 years ago. He also has not aged much.

Furthermore, I would like to mention the names of the farmers that live in Tikerghiol. From Malcoci there are Jordan Schmidt, Carol Trescher, Ignatz Bogolowsky and August Ereth. At the latter’s place, we celebrated Saint’s day and we sang a lot. Also living there are Stanislaus Klein, Johannes Martin, Mathias Joh. Ereth, Adam Goetz, Wendelin Ereth and Gregor Ereth.

There we visited Joseph Klein whose wife is Katharina, daughter of Konrad Ereth. The wife of Konrad Ereth lives with them, however she is bedridden because she is paralyzed. Maria Eva, the old neighbor of Uncle Dietz in Yakima, Washington, also lives there. There her youngest son is married to Magdalena Schmidt, the daughter of Uncle Jordan Schmidt. He operates a forge. Most people work in a rock quarry there.

This week Jakob Dirk and his wife from Malcoci visited here with their children Georg and Klara Ternes. Georg Ternes is the richest man in Caramurat. He is the brother of my mother-in-law. As soon as we are finished with the Welsh corn harvest we will leave for Malcoci to visit parents and siblings.

My mother is a bit in poor health also. We hope that she will soon be healthy again.

With a greeting,
Anton and Martha Schmidt
