I recently read with great joy the news from my native Krasna as submitted by Anton

Gedak. I was so happy that I felt compelled to ask Mr. Gedak to please write more often! I am sure there is always news to report such as deaths and marriages etc. I believe the people there would also be very interested in hearing from us. Unfortunately, the news is not so great.

We had a failed harvest and prolonged drought. Luckily, we are only 14 miles from the nearest mail station, namely Pollock, South Dakota. One can buy some good wines there. We are also blessed with church service twice a month. If there is a month with five Sundays, we get three services.

The weather is still nice. We had some snow, but it melted quickly. This is lucky for the farmers, since fodder for the livestock is limited.

(*Publisher: Thank you for bringing us a new reader as a Christmas present. We took care of the matter at once. It would be great, if each reader were to send us a new reader, too!)

I am asking my brother Nikolaus and sister-in-law Faustina to correspond more for the paper. Greetings to my siblings in Canada and Russia as well as to our dear mother!

Wishing you and all the readers a blessed Christmas and a happy New Year!

Johannes Engel
