It has been a while since my last posting. I wanted to write sooner, but could not find the time. The summers are filled with work and the evenings are short. Now it's a bit better and I can write more frequently, especially in the winter months, so that my friends and relatives in America can get some news from here as well. Let us hope it does not end up in the trash bin, as my last posting of 27 May never did get printed. I am not sure whether it ever reached its destination, or was just overlooked. In hopes that this column gets accepted, I am scribbling on!
The weather is cold now. We had three solid days of frost at the beginning of October and the windowpanes were all frozen. The corn that had looked so promising, but still green, suffered much. My corn was home already.
We had a mediocre harvest here but the prices were good, fortunately. However, horses and cattle are fetching record prices.
Michael Moldenhauer died 6 October. May he rest in peace! I hope that his son Johannes in America will get the sad news.
I have written my brother Joseph to enter a subscription for our brother-in-law Melchior, but he probably did not get the letter.
I am also sending greetings to my old mother and my siblings. I wish them the best in the new homeland. It would be nice to hear from them via this publication.
Zachäus Kopp,
Son of Martin
