First, I must say hello to the Staats-Anzeiger and all its readers. This newspaper is being sent to me through Phillip Seifert in Haynes, North Dakota. I receive it very regularly. Phillip, I sincerely thank you.

Right off, I have to say that the Staats-Anzeiger is far ahead of all newspapers and is the best that I have yet received. I have my sheer delight with the paper. In it you can read news items from all over the world, and sometimes about friends whom you haven’t heard from for years and assumed that they are already dead, because they just do not give a sign of life themselves. The newspaper simply is priceless.

I also read in the paper that readers who pay one year in advance could receive an awl. I believe that would be something for me because I am a tailor and also do my own harness making. (*Editor: The awl is available for an additional 30 cents. Because we have to pay the postage to Russia, and that the awl can only be shipped insured in order for it to arrive in the right hands, we therefore have to ask for an additional 55 cents. The awl is not suitable for tailors because its use is only intended for leather and thick material. For harness making it is ideal.)

I was really happy that my cousin Phillip Seifert has not forgotten me. He could not have given me a greater joy than sending this newspaper to me. I send him a heartfelt greeting!

I also greet my brother-in-law Joseph Miller who was married two years ago. During this time he has been in my house only once, although he resides not far from me. Since it seems that he has forgotten me, I would like to have him know that I am still living here. Maybe he will reflect on this and look me up more often.
