Worthy Editorship!
I wish you a Happy New Year! Enclosed you will find a money order in the amount of $2.50 for the Staats-Anzeiger for another year. (Editor: We received the money and thank you. We also forwarded to you the prize that you had chosen.)
We had very bad weather over the holidays. On the 25th a blizzard set in and lasted almost three days. During the holidays we could not even attend church. At the beginning of December, my wife had stepped on a roofing nail, which went right through the sole of the shoe and penetrated the second toe on her right foot. Soon blood poison set in and her toe had to be removed. Since the foot did not improve, but increasingly became worse, her leg had to be amputated right above the foot. Doctor Tschatritsch from Flasher performed the operation and I myself had to assist. Now my wife is doing better again. However she feels the loss of her foot so much more, because she has been suffering from diabetes for the past nine years, and no one can heal her from this disease.
With a friendly greeting,
M. A. Volk.
