Worthy Staats-Anzeiger!
Since my last report was quite some time ago, I want to reach for pen and ink again and present something from this corner to the dear readers.
In November Anton Dirk, son of Jakob died here. He left his wife, several children and a great many friends.
Further, Sophia Gross, nee Becker and wife of Romuald Gross departed this life. She left her very saddened husband and three children. Two of the children are married. The deceased had reached the age of 46 years. Peace to her ashes and may the perpetual light shine upon her.
On the sick list is Bulgeria Reifel, wife of Gabriel Reifel originally from Larga, Bessarabia. She had to undergo surgery because of gallstones and appendicitis. Now she is recuperating.
The 12-year old son of Julius Fleckenstein accidentally broke his leg and is now in the hospital under doctor’s care.
The writer of these lines once again is suffering from severe rheumatism, which is very uncomfortable.
As far as the weather is concerned, I can say that for three weeks it has been bitterly cold. There is also snow on the ground at an average of 9 inches deep. For a few days now we have had mild weather again, but the stove still has to be stoked or else it may extinguish and the inkpot could freeze.
Recently, the wedding bells have been ringing. The following couples were married. Johannes Paul, son of Remigius married the daughter of Peter Miller; Edmund Maas, son of Karl married the daughter of Reimund Koch; Anton Schmidt, son of Peter married the daughter of Dominik Meier; Ludwig Engler, son of Sebastian married the daughter of Dominik Maier; Frank Lutz, son of Felix married the daughter of Mr. Mack and Joseph Bachmeier married the daughter of Leo Volk.
We are grateful for the reports by Mr. Joseph Foeth in Brazil. We love to read the reports here. In Brazil there are a few friends of ours whom we have not heard from so far.
Rudolf Harbore is asking about his brother Hyronimus Harbore who also lives in Brazil. Should he read these lines then he should forward his address to his brother. As soon as he reports he will receive the Staats-Anzeiger for 1 year.
Daniel Hittel and his wife would also like to get a sign of life from their brother-in-law Joseph Kupfer who originates from Balmas. His wife who is from Emmental is nee Mueller. As soon as they send their address they will receive the Staats-Anzeiger. Therefore, they should report immediately.
Moreover, I would like to receive a sign of life from my godfather Johannes Baumann. He emigrated from Emmental and arrived here in 1911. In 1917 he moved up to the north and later on to the state of Kansas in the United States. Should he read these lines then he is asked to please forward his address to me.
Denisius Wingenbach was very happy that Mr. Anton Gedak in Krasna, Bessarabia has not forgotten him. He thanks him a lot for his reports from the old homeland and wishes him good health so that he will be able to write his reports for many years to come.
I wish the editorship and all the readers a happy New Year.
Joseph J. Hittel
