Dear Staats-Anzeiger!

I can report that we have been having nice weather lately, which also makes the farmers happy.

The twenty-five year old Rochus Wagner, son of Joseph Wagner, died on 19 April as a result of blood poisoning. He left behind his deeply grieving wife Rosina nee Jakob, and a two-year-old son. This serves as notification for Ludwig Stroh in Kandel, South Russia, also for the brothers of the deceased.

Mr. Ludwig Stroh in Kandel asked me in the Staats-Anzeiger what kind of work I do. I can tell him that I am farming and that I own two horses. Until our marriage, my wife was at Hyronimus Nagel’s in Emmental. He also gave her a dowry. She received four cows and also her household items.

Dear Staats-Anzeiger!

We were very happy to read the report by Anton Gedak from Krasna, Bessarabia in Edition #87 of the Staats-Anzeiger. We are greeting him kindly in return. We were very sorry though that you had not heard that your father had already died on 19 February 1925. At that time I had written about it in the Staats-Anzeiger, but it seems that the edition did not arrive over there. We hope that you, Mr. Gedak, will continue to make us happy more often with your interesting reports. Our people from Krasna enjoy reading them.

I am also very interested in the reports from Brazil. We especially enjoy reading the ones from Mr. Joseph Foeth. I would also really like to know how you are related as brother-in-law to our old neighbor Dionisius Nagel. He has as a wife, a daughter of the Sahli family. Perhaps you can explain this to us Mr. Foeth. Perhaps you could also report to us, which people from Emmental live near you.

In my last report, I mentioned that we were building a new parsonage. Now I can report that it is finished and that our pastor is living in it. He is quite satisfied with our parish.

In six years, we have not had as much moisture as we have this spring. Hopefully, we will have a good harvest once again.

The health conditions still leave much to be desired. Many people complain about a cough and pain from rheumatism.

In closing, I wish my old mother-in-law in the old homeland all the best and I greet everyone heartily.

Dear Staats-Anzeiger!

On 15 May, the children attended their first Holy Communion. There were 23 of them, among them was our 10-year old son Theobold. Father Linsch conducted the High Mass and also offered the children their first Holy Communion. Father Ambros delivered a meaningful sermon.

We are living in Auburn for 8 years now. Here we have the opportunity to attend two Holy Masses every Sunday.

On 23 April, our daughter Nathalia married Peter Hartmann, son of Johannes Hartmann and wife Magdalena who originated from Selz in South Russia. The young couple will establish their home in Tacoma, Washington.

We received a letter from our parents and we have also written three letters to them for which we are awaiting a reply. We would like to send a family photo to our parents, but we are worried that it would not arrive, just like the letters.

In closing, we greet our parents Heinrich and Rosalia Schulkowsky and our siblings, as well as Peter and Katharina Speicher from whom we have not heard since 1914. We would be happy to read something from them in the Staats-Anzeiger.
