Dear Staats-Anzeiger!

Despite repeated correspondences to my friends in America, I have not received an answer. Now I want to try it through the Staats-Anzeiger, which is read near and far.

I am looking for my friends Joachim and Marianna Koch and Kaspar and Mrs. Marthe. If they should read these lines, they are asked to send us their correct addresses.

We want to let them know that we are in desperate need. On some days we are without bread and we are suffering from hunger. Especially the children are to be pitied. They cry for bread but there is nothing to give them. The need is going to be even worse once winter starts, especially if it is going to be harsh. There are seven people in my family and we have nothing to eat. Perhaps, dear friends, you could ease our need with a few dollars. God will reward you!

Marianna Koch, nee Hartmann is the confirmation sponsor of my wife Appolonia, nee Kranich and she was also your nanny. Joachim Koch is my cousin.

During the war, I lost the toes on my right foot. Because of it, I am not suited for hard labor.

In closing, I greet all my friends, as well as the worthy editorship.

Joseph Kuss,
Son of Peter
