Dear Editor Brendel:
In my last report I wrote about frost and now spring has fully arrived. Farmers are preparing their fields and 1-2 Desjatines of barley has already been planted. I asked a farmer as he returned from his field, “Was plowing easy and did you plant anything?” His answer, “Yes, it was easy enough. I sowed barley, but the devil is with it. It doesn’t matter if it comes up or not, one doesn’t get anything for it anyway, but people have plenty of time on their hands right now.” I had to agree with the man.
Today we had a storm strong enough to take the roof off houses, but there was not too much damage. It began freezing again.
Joseph Hein, age 30, died. He leaves behind a wife and a child.
On February 4, Melchoir Dirk, son of the late Johannes and Dorothea, daughter of the late (war-dead) Georg Ternes were married. Best of luck to you!
On January 31, we had elections. Alexius Riehl became head mayor and Eustachius Wagner vice mayor. The following twelve were elected as village council member: Thomas Volk, Johannes Schaefer, Peter Mueller, Joseph Wingenbach, Joseph Soehn, Semfor Dirk, Albert Gulewitsch, Korbinian Leinz, Johannes Herrschaft, Valerian Furch, Joachim Boot and Peter Bachmeier.
We wish the gentlemen the very best in their distinguished offices to benefit our village. We can hope that the dogs won’t dance on the chancellery table. It took a full three days to count the ballots before the above-mentioned results were in.

In closing, I send greetings to the editor, staff and all readers here and there.
