Dear Staats-Anzeiger!

I would like to write a few words about our trip to greet the new immigrants from Bessarabia.

On 14 April, we received a postcard from Mr. Heinrich Ternes with the information that our friends from Krasna and Emmental would be arriving in Santos on 15 April. I immediately went to the railroad station in Montebello and took the train to Santos. Twenty-four hours later I arrived in Santos and went to the office to ask about a ship from Hamburg and was told that the ship “Antonio Delphino” would arrive on 16 April at 8 o’clock in the morning.

The next morning I went to warehouse #15 and saw the Italian ship “Antonio Delphino” arriving from Hamburg. When the ship was closer I saw the passengers standing on the deck and immediately recognized the people from Krasna. The women wore kerchiefs and the men wore caps. There were 3 families from Krasna, namely Johannes Ruscheinsky, Maximilian Schoen and Erasmus Becker. There were 2 families from Teplitz, namely Emil Krieger and a family from Balmas.

We went to a restaurant to eat and during our conversations Johannes Ruscheinsky asked about our sexton Johannes Miller, for whom he had brought sheet music. I once again went to the office and asked when the other people from Krasna and Emmental would be arriving and was told on 22 April.

The newcomers had decided to travel to Rio Grande. So I went home and when I arrived in our town Lins, I met Joseph Bender, his sister Katharina and Jakob Dutenhoefer with his family. My brother-in-law Anton Weber came by car to greet all of us, but I was the only one arriving.

On 26 April, my brother-in-law Joseph Nagel with his family and Jakob Weber with his family arrived here. Jakob Weber’s oldest son was held in Hamburg because of an eye ailment.

From Krasna came Joseph Wingenbach and Georg Wutschik. All people arrived here in good health.

I would like to ask all correspondents from the old homeland to write more often, and I want to thank my friend Isidor Leinz for his reports from Krasna. We also want to thank Mr. Adam Seifert for his reports.

Honored Editor Mr. Brandt!

This is my first report to the dear Staats-Anzeiger, which arrives here twice every week. My dear sister in Canada has the Staats-Anzeiger sent to me for a whole year. Today we are very grateful to her for this valuable paper.

After a long drought during which our grain suffered badly, a soaking rain set in today and refreshed everything.

I greet my sister Leogatha Hittel as well as brother-in-law Rochus and sister Maria Paul in Canada. I ask them to please write sometime in the Staats-Anzeiger. For six months now we have not heard from them. Likewise, brother-in-law Joseph Wagner in Canada has become dead quiet. If he is not a subscriber of the Staats-Anzeiger then he should order it. He then would get to know a lot about what is going on in his old homeland. Brother Anselmus in Brazil is also a reader of the Staats-Anzeiger; however he only submits a few reports. The parents send you a sincere hello.
