Valued Staats-Anzeiger!

The monotonous clattering of the reaping machines has started here. The harvest has begun. The ripened grain stalks are falling under the sharp blades of the knives and sheaf after sheaf are lining up next to one another in rows.

Some time ago I had reported that an ample wheat harvest was in store for the farmer. Now unfortunately that hope has sharply dwindled. The black rust has damaged the wheat to a point that the result will only be half of what was expected. In contrast, oats and barley are very good and the hay harvest was superb. Likewise, corn promises an exceptional harvest, if damaging early autumn frosts do not set in and the needed rain arrives at the right time. For potatoes and vegetables we need a reviving rain now.

As one can tell from the report by Mr. Johann Both from Krasna, Bessarabia, the women in Krasna are also on the road of progress. This probably was brought about by the licentious behavior of the Russian soldiers.

Why doesn’t the “A Farmer” write anymore? Did he desert to the camp of the Bolshevists, or did he get stuck in the mud on the way to the Benderer Ujesd?
