Dear Editor:
In my last report I said that the winter wheat was excellent. Unfortunately, that is no longer the case because of the frost we had. All the leaves froze; the stalks are standing bare. If we don’t get any rain soon, all will be lost. Barley and oats are still doing okay, but need rain too.
Prices are terribly low. Barley fetches 25 Lei/Pud, corn 30 Lei/Pud. Barley still in the field is worth 11 Lei/Pud to the Jewish buyer. Many have already sold this year’s crop and matters are 50% worse than they were last year. Why? Because people incurred large debts in the bad years. The notes are due now and cashed in against last year’s crop and most of this new harvest. We shall not give up hope, however, and trust our blessed Lord.
The following couples were married today: Widower Markus Ternes and Margaretha Reimann, daughter of the late Jacob Reimann. – Adelbert Marthe, son of Max and widow Elisabetha Ternes nee Fenrich. – Widower Balzner Wagner and Rosalie Maas, daughter of Adolf. Much luck to the newlyweds!
Adolf and Valerian Furch ask their friends and all the readers from Selz (Kutschurgan County) about news of their brother Johannes Furch, a former pastor of Selz. He was arrested and no one has heard of him since. Is he still alive or is he dead? The brothers send their thanks in advance for any help they may get in this matter. Has anyone in America heard about Pastor Johannes Furch? We are only a stone’s throw from Kutschurgan, but you across the great water know more than us on this side of the Dnjester River.
I would like to hear about my brother-in-law, Valentin Bertsch, who lives in Selz. Thanks in advance.
For the occasion of its 15th anniversary, I wish the Rundschau a large increase in subscriptions and look forward to all the great news to come.
Best regards to the editor and staff, and all the readers here and there.
