In addition to the bad grain harvest in this area, we had to put up with the awkward condition that the hay harvest had to follow the grain harvest. Because of the drought, grass could not be cut earlier.
Most farmers are done with harvesting hay by now and I think that everyone obtained enough to feed their cattle through the winter. The people are threshing, but there is not much wheat, only about 1 to 2 bushels per acre. That is indeed very bad. Welsh corn and potatoes are also scarce, a better word for not at all. A greeting to Godfather Ludwig Jochim in Neukandel and Uncle Peter Jochim, as well as to Franz Nold in Kosakova, Russia. They should also correspond for the Staats-Anzeiger.
